Emmanouil Rousakis

Research Scientist

Biography

Emmanouil Roussakis, is a research scientist in the samlab with over 15 years of experience in organic chemistry, materials development, and optical sensing technologies. His work focuses on the design and synthesis of functional probe molecules and materials for physiological and wearable sensing applications, with a strong emphasis on translational research. Before joining samlab, he held research and instructor positions at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he led and contributed to projects advancing optical oxygen and carbon dioxide sensing from benchtop development to first-in-human clinical studies. He has extensive experience working at the interface of chemistry, engineering, and clinical science, and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and patents in biomedical sensing. At the samlab, his research centers on the synthesis of aggregation-induced emission generating molecules for multi-metabolite monitoring within the ILLUMINATE project.
