In this project, we are developing a new sensor technology to improve the monitoring of multiple metabolites. We are utilizing special molecules with aggregation-induced emission, known as AIEgens, which emit particularly bright luminescence when they aggregate. These AIEgens are designed to emit light in different spectral regions, enabling the simultaneous measurement of various metabolites such as glucose, lactate, and ketones. The AIEgens are integrated into a biocompatible matrix and applied to the tip of an optical sensor, which is incorporated into a wearable device. This minimally invasive system allows for continuous monitoring of metabolism in the interstitial fluid under the skin and has the potential to significantly improve diagnosis and personalized treatment for conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
